At times during my devotions I would write out my prayer ending with “in Jesus name I pray, Amen, Trust God Nessa”. This footnote is a reminder to me of the importance of trusting God daily. I have learnt over the years, no matter what my petition, to Trust God for his perfect answer according to His will: whether it be yes, no, wait and seemingly sometimes no answer at all. I am certain that it would not come as a shock when I say that my favorite Bible Verses are:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.
As I studied the scripture for a Biblical example of Incredible Trust in God Jochabed, Moses’ mother, tugged at my heart. She is indeed an inspiration. This godly mother truly demonstrated incredible trust in God: along the banks of the same river that Pharoah was drowning the Hebrew boys. She placed her son Moses in a basket to save his life.
But when she could hide him no longer, she got a papyrus basket for him and coated it with tar and pitch. Then she placed the child in it and put it among the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
Exodus 2:3 (NIV)
Not only was Jochebed trusting God to protect her son Moses, but she also was trusting in God to protect her little daughter Miriam who had the awesome responsibility of guarding her baby brother.
And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.
Exodus 2:4 (NIV)
God honoured Jochabed’s trust in him with a sense of humour: she got paid to take care of her own son. Also, rather than killing Moses Pharaoh took care of Moses as his own grandson.
And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go.” So the maiden went and called the child’s mother. 9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him. 10 And the child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. So she called his name Moses, saying, “Because I drew him out of the water.
Exodus 2:8-10 (NIV)
I focused on Jochabed’s faith and trust but it would be remiss not to mention the role that both of Moses’ parents played in trusting God in preserving his life. As a matter of fact they were both inducted in the Hebrews 11 “Hall of Fame of Faith.”
23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict.
Hebrews 11:23 (NIV)
Moses’ parents’ faith and trust in God that He had plans not to harm their son but to give him a future and a hope (Jer. 29:11) motivated them to have no fear of the earthly King but Incredible Trust in the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.
What an almighty and incredible God we can trust in daily!!! Build your trust in God by stepping out in faith and just trusting God. I admonish you to fill in the blank with your name: “Trust God _______________”!!!
