Phil. 3:14 I PRESS toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
There is nothing passive about the word ‘PRESS.’ Press is action, commitment, and perseverance. Only when we press, we can meet our highest potential, ‘the mark for the prize.’ There are so many nuggets in Scripture to help us press towards our goals.
P – PRAY CONTINUOSLY
James 5:16 The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
For those who know their God, prayer is not a chore. Prayer is the lifeline of power, healing, deliverance, prosperity, and favor. Since prayer is a connection to the Most High who rules and overrules, no undertaking is effective without prayer. Take time to pray about what you are striving towards.
R – RUN YOUR RACE
Heb. 12:1 …And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,
Make sure that your goals are tailored just for you. Never-mind what everyone else is doing. Focus on what is specifically suited to fit your needs, abilities, and agenda.
E – EXPECT GOOD THINGS TO HAPPEN
Phil 4:8 (GNT) …Fill your mind with things that are good.
Think uplifting thoughts. Don’t dwell on the negative or past failures. Expect good outcomes. Our thoughts can make or break us. Don’t limit your potential by having a feeble mindset.
S – SHIFT OR MODIFY TO MAXIMIZE ACHIEVEMENT
Heb. 12:1 (NIV) Let us throw off everything that hinders…
Moving forward always comes with friction. Quickly identify any obstacle that opposes the progress of achieving your goal. Workaround it or change your strategy. Remove the distraction. Do away with any hindrances. Be accountable to a trusted friend. Chart your progress.
S – STICK TO IT
Gal 6:9 And let us not grow weary in well-doing
Do what is necessary to keep motivated. Endure to the end. Be patient with yourself. Hard work and sacrifice always pay off.
Whatever the goal, venture or exploit, we are created to strive and thrive. Do things that would bring good to yourself and others, and most importantly bring glory to God. PRESS on.
